The
following groups have been invited to participate in this "mock"
search which is a similar to an actual search. The main purpose
is to train and familiarize everyone with the basics of Incident
Command and operational deployment. A real live person will be out
in the woods somewhere pretending to be "lost", and it
will be the mission of the search teams to go out and find that
lost person.
ACFR
Reserves: Alachua County Fire Rescue Reserve Division SAR Team,
Bike Team, COMM team, Water Rescue Team, and EMTs CERT: Community
Emergency Response Team Members ARES/RACES: Ham Radio operators
for Radio Communications ASO: Alachua Sheriff's Office (Helicopter)
If
interested, please let Mitch or myself know. Also, you're encouraged
to join the SAR
email list to get the latest updates and happenings for this
event.
You
can come out one day, or both days, or stay overnight (camping).
Please be sure to be there by 9:00 am if you would like to join
us.
We
have plenty of positions to cover for radio operators including
setting up a base camp base-station radio, being a net-control on
a simplex or portable-repeater operation, and being a radio operator
for SAR teams deployed in the field. There is no AC power - this
is a true "field day" conditions. We may have one generator
available.

Subject: SAR Bivaouc 3,4FEB07!
This
is it! All of the permits have been signed, all of the K9s are rested,
all of the bikes are waiting and ready to go, and all of the Reserves
are back from the holidays looking for something fun to do! So here
it is: we've managed to get a lot of people excited about our two
day search and rescue combined special teams event. We are anticipating
having a great time, learning actual SAR operations, possibly seeing
local media (TV and/or news papers), and will get a visit from the
ASO/GPD helicopter unit (unless they have a call.)
Please
encourage everyone [in your group] to come join us. SAR training
or experience is not necessary to participate. The location is 20
minutes from Gainesville. Participants may join us one or both days.
Camping is available, but absolutely not necessary (we have extra
tents and stuff that will be set up and available for use). Please
bring appropriate personal equipment: boots, long pants, food, snacks,
water, hat, back pack, flash lights, etc.
Here's
the detail: Base Camp Location, Lochloosa Wildlife Conservation
Area, Cross Creek, Florida Assemble by 0915 at the latest at Burnt
Island Fishing Pier. To get there from Gainesville, take 301 south.
You'll pass the town of Lochloosa. Next you'll see a large billboard
advertising "Oranges, 6 Miles". The entrance to the base
camp road is on the right (west) and is marked with a small sign
that says "Public Fishing Pier" and another small sign
that reads "Lochloosa Wildlife Area" If you reach the
next large billboard the reads "Oranges, 4 Miles", you've
missed the turn off. Follow the bumpy road which will lead you to
the lake area.
Please
contact your members, with members of the media being there, we
need a great turn out. Please ask your members to confirm with me
if they plan on attending.
Please
contact me with a yes,no from your members. Also, I encourage everyone
to join our SAR Yahoo Group Alachua_SAR at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Alachua_SAR/join
If
you have any questions or wish to discuss, please contact me.
Thanks!
